To do so, the movie Hunger Games will be benefited from since it is one of the obvious movies that demonstrate the implementations of hegemonic state. To explain relations; realist theories will be used as a guide to examine power relations. Then the security problem that might result from the misuse of power and other results like poverty and hunger will be analyzed. This cobweb of relations will be criticized aftermath of having seen that how the discourses shape people through postmodernist ideas.

I have recently watched Mockingjay — the third film in the series. I found Mockingjay very different and more difficult to understand than the previous two. The enemies are much more abundant and less obvious in this, making it more of a challenge for the viewer to follow and fully understand.

In postmodernist films this is a familiar aspect. I feel that the themes and issues addressed in The Hunger Games series are very closely linked to postmodernism.

The Hunger Games represents a hyperreality of a post apocalyptic world. In Reality shows like Big Brother, we watch groups of people living everyday lives, but in a constructed and controlled environment. We are entertained by conflict or emotional breakdowns the people we watch may experience.

We seem to be entertained by the suffering of others.

The competitors in the show are put in dangerous situations, making it more exciting for the viewers, much like what we see in the Hunger Games.

Tributes are put in the fake man-made setting of the Hunger Games, which the Capitol, are in complete control of.

However this artificial and composed environment becomes very real for the viewers. They offer help and sponsor those in the Games when they themselves are in a similar situation, living in severe poverty.

The Capitol is, in some ways, similar to the power the media have in todays society. We are tricked into believing that things are real, such as reality TV, advertisements etc.

The Hunger Games demonstrates this effect of mass media on their audiences. The Audience of the Hunger Games are a passive mass, who will accept whatever the media feeds them, and become simulated by it.

The viewers are obsessed with the Games because the media has so powerfully exaggerated it that it becomes more interesting than their own reality. The tributes in the Games become completely dependent on the sponsors of those watching, therefore changing themselves and altering their personalities, in order to be liked by the viewers and media.
